2 – BULLETCAM

The second generation was a Bulletcam from RF Concepts. It had a larger lens and a greater depth of field. Once again, the search was on to find a plastic bottle to protect the connector and provide a better anchoring point for the separate microphone.

Powering the camera was slightly trickier than before as it took 8 AA batteries. Not something you could strap to your mask and still maintain dignity. A custom carboard box, velcro, some foam padding and a quick shop at Maplin produced the portable power pod (see photo to the right). The top left outer pocket on my webbing was ‘modified’ to accommodate the pack and provide a guide for the cable down to the recorder. Lots of cables…

The recorder was upgraded to an Archos PMA400 which had a comparatively whopping 30gb hard disk and could be housed in a modified plastic Tesco kitchenware box. It kept the unit dry and paint free but really struggled with the heat in Oklahoma.
